Stone of Remembrance is my tribute to the Hawthorn Cenotaph ! An enduring symbol of service and sacrifice set within the quiet beauty of St. James Park, Hawthorn. As a local artist, I’ve walked past this memorial countless times while living in Hawthorn. Over the years, it’s become a familiar pause in my day; a space that invites stillness and reflection.

Surrounded by towering trees and filtered light, the cenotaph stands with quiet strength, grounded in history and in the memory of a community that continues to honour those who served the country.

Through muted tones and impressionistic brushwork, I wanted to capture both the weight of remembrance and the peaceful presence of this space. This painting reflects my deep connection to place, and how art can hold space for memory, honour, and quiet reflection. Lest We Forget !
